Nature-Based Resilience in Coastal Dune Systems: An Integrative Biodiversity Conservation Approach

In this presentation, I explore coastal dune systems through the lens of Integrative Biodiversity Conservation, with a focus on Broward County, Florida. This project examines how ecological systems, governance structures, community engagement, and coastal management practices interact to shape dune resilience along highly developed coastlines. Topics covered include: • Nature-based solutions and dune restoration • Governance fragmentation across municipalities • Cross-scale coastal management challenges • Community stewardship and conservation • Broward County dune systems and resilience planning • Systems thinking in biodiversity conservation • Strategies for improving long-term coastal resilience Drawing from both academic research and real-world conservation experience, this presentation highlights how dune systems are not just ecological landscapes — they are complex socio-ecological systems shaped by policy, people, infrastructure, and environmental change.
