7 Catalina Island Yellowtail on Our Small Boat! Southern California Sport Fishing | We Fish SoCal

The ocean and wind finally lined up perfectly, so we loaded up our small private boat and headed offshore for a Southern California sport fishing adventure at Catalina Island. Our first stop was Mike’s San Pedro Bait Company bait barge, where we were lucky enough to get a tank full of live sardines. From there, we made the run across the channel hoping to find the Catalina Island yellowtail bite. We absolutely scored. By the end of the trip, we had put seven yellowtail on the boat—nearly 100 pounds of Southern California yellowtail between us. These were also the first yellowtail Kadin and I had ever caught at Catalina Island, making this one of our most memorable fishing trips yet. There is nothing like taking your own small boat across to Catalina, finding the fish, putting getting bit, and coming home loaded with fresh yellowtail.
