In a speech to thousands of people gathered at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the unity of his country's people. Referring to the war against Ukraine, he said: "We haven't had this feeling of unity for a long time." In some other translations (such as that of the US cable network CNN), Putin said that Russia "has never had such strength" and "been so strong" as it is now. The event was held on Friday (March 18) to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the signing of the treaty that formalized the annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol to Russia.
