Land consolidation represents a significant opportunity for rural development. Thanks to financial support from European Union funds, work in this area is being gradually implemented. Instruments supporting these activities are included in the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy for 2023–2027. Land consolidation is a classic agricultural management measure aimed at improving the deficient spatial structure of farmland. Land consolidation involves the creation of new cadastral plots, with a different configuration than the original ones, in order to reduce the number of small, scattered plots comprising a farm, increase their average size, and provide each consolidated plot with access to a public road. Undoubtedly, the economic (but also social) effects of land consolidation include post-consolidation development, which includes: • construction or reconstruction of agricultural transport roads designated as part of the consolidation process, providing access to agricultural and forest land and farm buildings; • correction of the course and improvement of technical parameters of water drainage facilities necessary to facilitate land development, in particular maintenance of detailed drainage ditches through deepening, shrub removal, leveling and strengthening of the bottom and slopes, construction and reconstruction of culverts; • adaptation of newly allocated cadastral plots to undertake rational agricultural works, including the removal of unnecessary field margins and roads, and reclamation works enabling mechanical cultivation (shrub removal, descaling, liming, mowing of perennial grasses, leveling and land leveling).
