Balu ka Ghera - Hampta Pass Base Camp 2 🏔️ Altitude: ∼3,800m / 12,400ft. Day 2 camp on Hampta Pass trek after Chika. Location & Terrain: This is where the trek changes completely. No more pine trees or meadows. Balu ka Ghera = "Bear's Lake" - a huge boulder zone + grassy patches beside a glacial lake/stream. You’re now in the Himalayan "moonland". Looks like Ladakh. Barren, rocky, massive peaks all around. Vibe: Raw + wild. Dead silent except for wind + stream. Day = bright sun + cold wind. Night = 0 to -5°C even in June/July. Stars + Milky Way are next level here because zero light pollution. Camp setup: • Tents: Alpine tents on rocky ground. Ground is cold, so good sleeping mat is a must. • Washroom: Dry toilets, far from camp + lake for safety. • Water: From the glacial stream. Ice cold. Boiled before drinking. • Food: High-calorie veg meals - dal, rice, khichdi, soup, tea/coffee. Common dining tent.
