In this week’s slow living video, I begin with a quiet moment, writing and narrating a poem with a hot tea in hand, Mirage. The morning sky unfolds with soft colours, before I continue developing my painting practice, a new skill I am enjoying and growing into. I spend time caring for my botanical garden, and as evening arrives, I unwind through stretching, easing the body into rest. A gentle rhythm of creativity, reflection, and stillness, carried through the desert day. Poem – Mirage The desert road is my vision I see a glassy pool up ahead Is it an ice rink here in the desert? Heat vapours are rising from its bed This lake ahead is moving It seems to ripple in it’s wake Like a pebble skipping softly Across a quiet a lonely lake The more I travel onwards The further away it seems What is this phantom puddle It feels like im chasing my very own dreams The Sand dunes are passing by me Sweeping the sand up in the air Amber shines through the dust- shimmering Landing quietly without a care This looks just like a mirror The backdrop ripples through the sky An illusion that feels like magic I stop to rub my eyes I laugh to myself at this reflection Is it a metaphor for my dreams Will I forever be chasing My dreams - a mirage never seen An illusion that travels in silence This mirror is tricking me A magician casts his shadow On the optics that I see I drive on, trying to catch it But it proves much faster than me This oasis in the desert Is obstructing all I see If I ever reach it Will it show me who I am Will I like who stares back at me Or will fear strike me with its hand The desert road still my vision I still see a glassy pool up ahead This time I know it’s a mirage As heat vapours are rising from its bed Filmed across a quiet day in the desert, with moments of creativity, care, and reflection.
