A legendary coach in the world of high school girls' volleyball has passed away. Inoue Hiroaki, who led Kyushu Bunka Gakuen in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, to 15 national championships, passed away on April 26, 2025 at the age of 67. Inoue Hiroaki, who continued to pursue true volleyball, was born in what is now Ariemachi, Minamishimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture. After graduating from Fukudai Ohori High School and Nippon Sport Science University, he was contacted by Kyushu Bunka Gakuen in Sasebo in 1980 to take up a position as a health and physical education teacher. Not only did he provide mental guidance, but the technical instruction he arrived at after much trial and error, such as practicing with a blackout curtain over the net, helped propel Kyushu Bunka Volleyball to the national level. In a program where soccer coach Tadatoshi Komine, who was coaching Kunimi High School at the time, and TV Nagasaki announcer Matsunaga were drinking together, he revealed an episode of getting off the train at Hizen-Yamaguchi Station in Saga and walking to Sasebo after the team's runner-up finish.
