Every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in the things pertaining to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He may be able to offer compassion for those who do not know and go astray, for he himself is burdened with frailty, and therefore, as for the people, he must also offer for himself for sins. And no one takes honor for himself, except he who is called by God, as Aaron. So Christ did not glorify Himself by becoming the High Priest, but rather the One who said to Him, "You are My Son, today I have begotten you." As He also says elsewhere, "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." GOSPEL (John 10, verses 11-16)  At that time, Jesus said to the Pharisees, "I am the good Shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. But the hireling, who is not the shepherd, whose own sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees. The wolf snatches and scatters the sheep. But the hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care for the sheep. I am the good Shepherd, and they know My own, and they know Me, as the Father knows Me, and I know the Father, and I lay down My life for My sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold, and they need Me to bring them, and they will listen to My voice: and there will be one shepherd and one flock.   This great and widely renowned Martyr of Christ, our Patron, should draw every compatriot above all to contemplate his life, for just as a vine planted on one's own native land flourishes more quickly, grows more luxuriantly, and bears more precious fruit, so the life of the great Saint Stanislaus should make a more immediate and profound impression on you, Reader, compatriot.   Very often, kings and princes, seduced by base flattery, or proud of their power, indulge in licentious lives, renounce the rules and principles of morality and virtue, oppress their subjects, and set the worst examples for them with their own lives. On the other hand, the Holy Church produces men who, regardless of any worldly considerations, fearlessly speak the truth to these powerful rulers, without fear of retribution.   Such a man of fearless courage was St. Stanislaus, son of Wielisław and Bogna, the Szczepanowski spouses, noble in virtue and fear of God.
