Sign up 👉 https://naukikatolickie.pl/zapisy One of the greatest lights, illuminating the Holy Church to this day with his scholarship, as well as a model of true Christian humility and faithful friendship, was the Saint whose life we ​​are brought to commemorate here.   Born in Nazianzus in Cappadocia in the year 315, Gregory was a worthy son of an illustrious family, whose father, also Gregory, and mother, Nonna, along with his siblings, Gorgonia and Caesarius, are venerated as Saints. While still a little boy, in his mother's bosom he acquired a love of prayer, and a dream confirmed his youthful purity, which he describes as follows: "Two virgins appeared to me, dressed in white robes with flowing hair, of strange beauty and grace. Their faces were covered with a delicate veil, their gaze lowered to the ground, a rosy blush on their cheeks, their posture noble and modest. They caressed me like a mother with a child and answered my question about who they were and where they came from: we are innocence, we surround the throne of Jesus Christ and we rejoice greatly when virgin souls come before this throne—join us, we will surround you with great splendor and raise you to the brightness where the Most Holy Trinity reigns." Then they floated, as it were, toward Heaven, and I gazed after them, filled with delight. I had a great desire to go to them and live from then on in innocence. From that time on, I had no desire for feasting, for fine clothing, for jokes, for horses, for hunting, or for worldly pleasures in general; I only liked devotional books, I enjoyed the company of pious people, and I desired only instruction and salvation."   Gregory attended schools in Caesarea, Alexandria, and Athens, where he formed a lasting bond of friendship with Basil and his brother Gregory, which became famous throughout the world as the "Cappadocian Trinity." He himself writes about this relationship: "The same pursuit of learning animated us all, and yet not one of us burned with envy of the others; on the contrary, each of us tried to encourage his companions to ever greater virtue and perfection; our lives were dedicated to God and Heaven. We associated only with the best and most moral youth, for reckless and licentious companions often lead others to vice. We knew only two paths: one to church and the priests, and the other to the sciences.
