Maloney man gunned down moments after telling friend he was being followed

A 25-year-old man was shot dead in Maloney on Friday evening after reportedly telling a friend that he believed he was being followed by a vehicle. Dead is Jamal Sheppard of Maloney Gardens, D’Abadie. Police said around 6:50 p.m. on June 19, Sheppard arrived at a home along Gull Terrace, Maloney, where he spoke with a woman while standing on the roadway. During the conversation, Sheppard reportedly said he had been followed by a white vehicle after leaving the Maloney Police Station, where he had gone earlier to fulfil his bail conditions. Moments later, a white vehicle of unknown make and registration reportedly pulled up nearby. Two men armed with firearms exited the vehicle and opened fire in Sheppard’s direction. Sheppard attempted to escape by running away and climbing over a nearby wall into another yard, but the gunmen followed and continued shooting. He was struck multiple times and collapsed. The attackers then returned to their vehicle and escaped eastbound. Police and emergency responders arrived at the scene after reports of loud explosions. A search of the area led to the recovery of 12 spent 9mm shell casings. The District Medical Officer visited the scene and pronounced Sheppard dead. His body was later removed.
