The children joined us on an outing to Samcheong-dong to see the exhibition "Vibrating Objects," curated by artist Koo Bon-chang at Kukje Gallery, a renowned gallery in Korea. Due to heavy rain while viewing the exhibition, we filmed this YouTube episode inside Kukje Gallery, where video recording was permitted. From my subjective perspective, the exhibition "Vibrating Objects," curated by nine photographers who capture objects—including Koo Bon-chang—did not appear to be a highly polished production. However, this might be an issue with Sean Pak, a landscape photographer who adopts a documentary style based on factual accuracy. In the age of AI, where controversies regarding the original are intensifying and where computer programs can automatically produce images akin to photography even without a physical original, one wonders where the importance of realism, originality, and camerawork lies in images that capture objects. In this regard, I believe this exhibition was curated by Koo Bon-chang and nine photographers who personally photograph objects. I will address this later, but as someone running a studio business, the term "objects" often refers to product photography. Judging by the recent sharp decline in product photography and simple cutout shots, it seems true that the process of creating images of real objects versus virtual objects generated by AI has become a social issue. However, ultimately, it is a matter of choice for the viewer—the audience. Commercially, whether one chooses AI photos or shots taken with a camera oneself, things necessary for technological advancement are bound to be replaced; I wondered if the exhibition "Vibrating Objects" might be the one that raised this issue. But texture. I felt that the content of the exhibition was somewhat difficult to understand, to the point where one needed text to grasp the meaning. Nevertheless, considering that Koo Bon-chang has long been a representative photographer for Kukje Gallery, and that eight artists who share his artistic vision were able to showcase their own intentions regarding how they view objects in such a fine gallery, I felt this was a quite meaningful exhibition; as a fellow photographer, I also felt a sense of envy. I believe "Vibrating Objects" is an exhibition worth visiting at least once for anyone who loves photography.
