Wilhelm Canaris - Leben und Wirken des deutschen Abwehchefs im Zweiten Weltkrieg
ATTENTION: Canaris was 162 cm tall, not 152 cm! As befits a head of intelligence, much about the head of the German military intelligence service during World War II, the Abwehr (Intelligence Service) in the Wehrmacht High Command, remains obscure even today. There are no written records of his actions, nor were any of them reported after the war, except for a few close associates. The majority of his colleagues were either killed in action or succumbed to the persecution rage following the July 20, 1944, incident. In my account, I attempt to convey a fair picture of the man who, for some, is a traitor, for others, a resistance fighter. But who was Wilhelm Canaris really?
