Deutschlands militärischer Geheimdienst 1935 bis 44 - Aufstieg und Ende
In Germany, before and during World War II until 1944, the Foreign Office/Defense Office of the High Command of the Wehrmacht (OKW) under Admiral Canaris was responsible for military reconnaissance. It attempted to provide satisfactory answers for all fronts. This was virtually impossible, as the number and diversity of theaters of war steadily grew. As the war progressed, the Abwehr increasingly faced new internal competitors, with the Reich Security Main Office (RSHA) taking particularly aggressive action. The video depicts the rise and fall of the German military Abwehr, which until 1943 also controlled the Brandenburg Division. Upon the dismissal of Admiral Canaris in 1944, it was incorporated into the Reich Security Main Office as the "Military Office" (Mil Amt), thus ending the traditional military Abwehr as an independent entity within the Wehrmacht leadership.
