Mismo ritmo, más pulso: la deriva cardiovascular que arruina tu zona 2
Why does your heart rate increase even if you maintain the same pace or power output? In this video, we analyze cardiovascular drift, one of the most important and most misunderstood phenomena in endurance sports. Many cyclists, runners, and triathletes notice that their heart rate starts out controlled, but as the minutes pass, it gradually increases even though their speed, pace, or power output remains unchanged. This doesn't always mean you're losing fitness. It could be due to heat, dehydration, accumulated fatigue, poor glycogen availability, a Zone 2 training zone that's too high, or insufficient recovery. We'll also look at the difference between external and internal load, the role of plasma volume, stroke volume, thermoregulation, aerobic decoupling, and the relationship between Zone 2, LT1, and metabolic efficiency. Furthermore, we'll briefly use Pogačar's case as an example to understand why a professional athlete and an amateur athlete don't recover or respond in the same way to the same training load. The central idea is clear: improvement isn't just about going faster. It's also about sustaining effort with less physiological cost. In this video you will learn: How to interpret cardiovascular drift. Why your heart rate increases even if your pace doesn't. When drift is normal and when it should concern you. What its relationship is to zone 2 and LT1. How to reduce it through hydration, nutrition, heat management, volume progression, and recovery. Why copying the pros doesn't always work.
