Spica splint application dog demonstrated on an ethically sourced dog cadaver
The spica splint is an extension of the lateral splint. It is used to stabilise structures above the elbow - e.g some may use to add extra support after reduction of an elbow dislocation. We have used it to support a non displaced fracture to the humerus of a one week old goat kid. It is worthwhile watching the video on the application of the lateral splint first so as to be familiar with the application of the base layers.
