Ehmer sling (demonstrated on a donated canine cadaver)
Please be advised that this a demonstration on a donated cadaver. An Ehmer sling is used to keep the hind limb in an internally rotated non-weight bearing position. It is useful following closed reduction of a coxofemoral luxation (although unfortunately reluxation occurs in the majority of cases and surgery is then indicated). The sling should remain in position 2 - 3 weeks in the ideal world but this can be difficult to achieve as it is not the most comfortable sling for dogs to wear.
