Jungyo | A Different Kind Of Sumo | Comedy | Singing | Tradition & Rituals | Japan

I recently went to a sumo jungyō (regional tour), and it was such a memorable experience 😊. I’d highly recommend going if you ever get the chance to get tickets 🎟️—it’s easily one of my favourite events since moving to Japan 🇯🇵. Don’t forget to take some cash along with you if you would like to purchase any sumo merchandise or food from the stalls! We bought our tickets from Mikabo Mirai Kan, a theatre in our local area, but they were also available at Lawson convenience stores. I expected it to be a bit different from an official tournament, but it turned out to be completely different—in the best way ✨. The atmosphere was much more relaxed, fun, and light-hearted. There was a lot of humour woven into the event 😂, alongside traditional rituals and demonstrations. One of the biggest surprises was seeing sumo wrestlers singing 🎤. Their voices were genuinely beautiful, which I wasn’t expecting at all! I’ve always enjoyed watching sumo, but I’ve really gotten into it over the past five years. Now that I recognise most of the top wrestlers, I honestly felt a bit starstruck 🤩 seeing them in person—especially my favourite, Ura Kazuki. I’ve heard that sumo wrestlers are sometimes treated almost like gods in Japan, so it was really lovely to see them casually lining up at food stalls just like everyone else 🍢. If you’re even slightly interested in sumo, I’d definitely recommend going to a jungyō 🙌. It’s a unique and surprisingly entertaining experience. #sumo #sumowrestling #jungyo #japanlife #japantravel #japanesetraditions #相撲 #宇良 Music YouTube Audio - Retro
