Gold Prospecting Canyon Creek! (Trinity County, CA)

Today I'm out on Canyon Creek in legendary Trinity County, California, testing the gravels and checking out the bedrock with my Gold monster 2000, Goldpan and DreamMat sluicebox! I didn't push all the way deep into the canyon on this trip—saving the heavy trek for next time—but I'm still working historic ground to see what I can find! Canyon Creek is legendary in California gold rush history. After gold was first found on the Trinity River in 1848, miners quickly pushed into the surrounding creeks. By the 1880s, Canyon Creek was a major hotspot. Over 12 continuous miles of the creek were heavily worked by early miners, and the upper section became a booming gold district! How much gold was actually found here? The Big Mines: Just two of the area's historic lode mines—the Alaska and the Globe Consolidated—pulled out a combined $1.3+ million in gold (which would be worth tens of millions of dollars at today's prices!). The County Total: From 1880 to 1959, Trinity County produced a staggering 2,036,300 ounces of gold—much of it washed down from creeks exactly like this one. With history like that, there is always gold hiding in these cracks. Watch as I set up, test the pans, and see if I can shake some wild Trinity County color out of the rocks! Don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE to follow along as I plan our next trip even further up the creek! 🔔 #GoldProspecting #TrinityCounty #CaliforniaGold #CanyonCreek
