Reagan vs. Mondale: 1984 Election Ads
The 1984 Election toke place on November 6, 1984. Mr. Reagan was re-nominated easily by the Republicans. The Democrats were had Gary Hart, a Senator of Colorado, and Walter Mondale. Still there were others like John Glenn, Jesse Jackson and even George McGovern. Well the Democrats went with Mondale, Mondale picked Geraldine Ferraro, a representative from New York, as his running mate, who became the first woman to be on a major party ticket. At the first debate, Reagan seemed unfocused and tired, and many Americans were wondering if Reagan could serve a second term, he was 73 after all. But at the second debate when Reagan made a joke about Mondale’s experience, which made the audience and even Mondale laugh. Later that night, Mondale told his wife that he had no chance of winning the election that November. Mondale was right. Reagan DESTROYED Mondale, receiving 525 Electoral Votes and 58.8%. Every state except for Minnesota, and The District of Columbia voted for President Reagan. Mondale won 13 Electoral votes, but did receive 41% of the popular vote. When Reagan was asked in December 1984 what he wanted for Christmas, he joked, "Well, Minnesota would have been nice". This video is dedicated to The Great Walter Mondale (1928-2021). Despite his Devastating loss, Mondale is considered to be one of the best, if not the best Vice President in American history. Outstanding Man and Great American, Rest In Peace, Fritz.
