The Most Detailed Tour of the Pearl District & Slabtown (2026 Update)

Thinking about moving to Portland? In this first part of this episode, I take you on a map tour through two of the city’s most popular and dynamic west side neighborhoods, the Pearl District and Slabtown. I have lived in Portland for more than 20 years, raised my family here, and explored nearly every corner of the city. Today I am introducing you to the Living in Portland series while walking through these vibrant neighborhoods so you can experience the lifestyle, housing options, and everyday conveniences that attract so many people relocating to the city. We start by orienting newcomers arriving through Portland International Airport and explaining how the west side of the city is laid out. From there, we head into the Pearl District, one of Portland’s most dramatic urban transformations. What was once an industrial warehouse zone has evolved into one of the city’s most desirable urban neighborhoods filled with modern condo towers, converted lofts, art galleries, restaurants, and boutique shopping. Along the tour, we highlight several notable residential buildings that define the Pearl District skyline and lifestyle. These include The Cosmopolitan, a 28 story luxury tower with about 150 units where prices often range from the mid $800,000s to around $900,000 with HOA dues around $1,100 per month. We also look at the Encore, a 16 story building built around 2007 to 2008 with about 177 units typically priced between $500,000 and $650,000. Other housing options include waterfront condominiums that often range between $600,000 and $700,000 as well as the popular Streetcar Lofts where prices often fall between $500,000 and $600,000. Beyond the housing, we explore the lifestyle that makes this area so attractive. The Pearl District is known for its walkability, easy access to coffee shops, gyms, restaurants, and some of Portland’s most beloved parks including Tanner Springs Park and Jamison Square. We also stop by well known dining destinations like Andina and Mediterranean Exploration Company, two favorites among locals and visitors alike. From there we continue into Slabtown, another rapidly growing neighborhood just northwest of the Pearl. With its mix of modern apartments, restaurants, breweries, and proximity to Forest Park, Washington Park, the Japanese Garden, and the Oregon Zoo, Slabtown has become one of the most appealing places to live for people who want city living with quick access to nature. If you are relocating and looking for an urban lifestyle with walkability, parks, dining, and modern housing options, the Pearl District and Slabtown are two neighborhoods you should absolutely explore. ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ 🤔 Moving to Portland, Oregon?
