Santo Antônio do Jacinto - Minas Gerais, Brazil - Founded March 1, 1963 (62 years) Demonym: santoantonenses / santoantoniense Santo Antônio do Jacinto began in the 1930s with the arrival of migrants from northern Minas Gerais, the caatinga regions of Bahia, and southern Bahia. These people became acquainted with the region mainly through the muleteers who made stops in the surrounding area to rest their animals before continuing their journeys. It became known as a region with good land for agricultural production amidst the Atlantic Forest climate. Thus, many families moved from their native regions and settled along the banks of the stream that forms the border between the states of Minas Gerais and Bahia. "In 1934, Messrs. Altino Trindade, Antônio José Ferreira, Teodoro Ferreira de Queirós, José Cascalho dos Santos, Clemente Rocha Bandeira, and José Adrião Bandeira decided to found a village, which they soon named Santo Antônio, as it was the saint of devotion of the founders. The fertility of the land and the salubrious climate attracted new residents, and the small village grew rapidly, becoming a district in 1949 and a municipality in 1963." (Source: IBGE) With the growth of people in the region, it developed into a village, later becoming a district of the municipality of Jacinto/MG and being elevated to a municipality on March 1, 1963. Currently, it has a population of approximately 10,327 people (IBGE 2022), with a district called Catajás and a village called Cristianópolis.
