I Walked from Spain to the UK in Just 5 minutes...How?
The border between Spain and Gibraltar exists because of a long history of war, diplomacy, and competing claims over the territory. Gibraltar sits at the narrow entrance to the Mediterranean Sea, where ships pass between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean. Whoever controlled Gibraltar could monitor or influence one of the world's most important shipping routes. During the War of the Spanish Succession, a fleet of British and Dutch forces fighting on behalf of the Austrian claimant to the Spanish throne captured Gibraltar from Spain in 1704. Although they captured it in the name of another king, Britain soon retained control of the territory. #travel #gibraltar #crossingborders #rockofgibraltar #britishhistory
