Rockin' Irish Reels (Michael McAuley's & Upstairs in a Tent)
We love Irish traditional music as much as we love American traditional music. We also love many of the sounds of contemporary music like Rock, Country, Jazz, and more. With this project we wanted to combine the sounds of traditional Irish reels with 1980s Rock. This is not unprecedented. If you’d like to hear more of this sound you can refer to the family band from Ireland called the Corrs, or to the Cape Breton, Nova Scotia native, Natalie MacMaster. These are just two example of traditional music artists combining 20th century sounds and style with traditional tunes. We are grateful to Jesse Christopher for participating on this project. Outside of our work as LittleJohn (duo), we (Lindsay and Mark) are members of the band Lincoln Highway. Jesse is the percussionist in Lincoln Highway. Thus, we have played music together with Jesse for many years. We think Jesse is spot-on with his percussive timing, and he is also a very intuitive percussionist.
