Minstrel Boy

The Minstrel Boy is a song composed by Thomas Moore in 1813. Thomas Moore was a poet and writer from Dublin, Ireland. The song became a statement against slavery, tyranny, and suppression of people in general. But, more specifically, Thomas Moore felt that slavery was a great evil. He wrote about American slavery with disdain. He saw that enslaved people had very little reason to hope for freedom. He lived at a time when slavery was only just beginning to be abolished in some parts of Europe. Unfortunately, in the U.S. slavery was at perhaps at its strongest point in 1813 and, little did he know at the time, was still 50 years away from abolishment in America. We chose to arrange, record, and film this song simply because of the beauty of the melody. It has a nostalgic sound that stirs emotions in people. Hopefully it will stir good emotions in our listeners.
