Batch Baking for the Week( Part 1) | How I Feed My Family of 6 on R4000 a Month
Have you ever wondered how I keep our grocery budget low while still baking from scratch? One of the biggest systems that has transformed our home economy is batch baking. Instead of baking every day, I dedicate one day to filling our freezer with homemade baked goods. In today's baking day, I'm using frozen bananas and apples from my recent bulk produce haul to make: 🍌 4 Banana Loaves 🍎 24 Apple Muffins 🥥 Jumbo Vanilla, Coconut & Raisin Muffins Having homemade food ready in the freezer means we spend less on convenience foods, make lunchboxes quickly, reduce food waste, and always have something to serve unexpected guests. If you've been looking for practical homemaking systems that save both time and money, I hope this video encourages you. 👇 Recipes mentioned in this video: (Banana Loaf Recipe) Mix wet together first: 3 big bananas/ 5 small 1 tsp vanilla essence 1 egg 1/3 cup melted butter 3/4 cup sugar Then add dry ingredients: 1 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp bicarbonate soda 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp mixed spice( optional but I love it) Bake for 55 mins 180 degrees. This recipe makes 1 loaf. (Apple Muffin Recipe) Ingredients 3 grated apples 1/2 cup + 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup oil 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla essence 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp mixed spice( cinnamon, nutmeg& cloves) 1/2 tsp salt 1 cup + 1/2 cup + 1/8 cup flour Method 1. Add your sugar together with eggs, oil, and vanilla essence and whisk. 2. Add the grated apples to the wet mixture and set aside. 3. Combine all the dry ingredients in another bowl and mix. 4. Add the dry to the wet in batches with a spatula. 5. Bake for 20 minutes at 180 degrees. (Coconut Muffin Recipe) Makes 12 jumbo muffins/ 24 regular muffins Dry ingredients: 3 cups flour 1 cup coconut 4 tsp baking powder 2 cups sugar 1/2 cup raisins wet ingredients: 2 cups milk 3 eggs 1 1/2 cups oil 6 tsp vanilla essence method: Mix wet and dry separately and then combine gradually.
