PSHE Association case study- Greensward School
The central role of PSHE education in preparing young people to be world-class citizens (Greensward School) At Greensward Academy PSHE education is at the heart of their aim to develop world- class citizens for the future. Economic wellbeing and financial capability (EWFC) is delivered alongside personal wellbeing (PW) in an integrated PSHE education programme which also highlights for students the strong links with the citizenship programme of study. Students enjoy the active lessons and recognise their relevance of the unique content in preparing them for adult life. During the lesson students explore the concept of risk in the context of PW as well as EWFC, leading to the discussion about the risks that might be involved when choosing a work experience placement and the benefits and drawbacks of taking risks. In order to further prepare, they work in groups to identify employability skills that they may need during their work experience. The group discussion provides an extremely effective way of enabling students to develop their understanding of employability. Later they work individually, using the process of critical reflection to record their own skills. The subject leader provides a well planned programme for her team of tutors who deliver through tutorial sessions, PSHE education lessons and enrichment activities such as work experience, employer visits and enterprise days, but she recognises that more could be achieved in developing the key concepts if it was delivered by a well-trained dedicated team of experts. This is her aspiration for the future of PSHE education at Greensward.
