This place is located at 4335 meters above sea level in the Puna ecoregion near the Galán Volcano, in the Catamarca department of Antofagasta de la Sierra. It is a river valley that has dug a 150-meter-deep canyon on a platform of ignimbrite, a volcanic rock that arrived there thanks to the powerful eruptions of the Galán Volcano, known for having the largest crater in the world.
