Sunrise Paddleboard Fishing with Manatees | Florida's Morning Magic

Some mornings begin in complete silence. On the first morning of daylight savings time in March 2026, my alarm went off at 5:00 AM and I quietly gathered my gear in the dark so I wouldn’t wake anyone else in the house. The plan was simple. Paddle into the sunrise somewhere I had been wanting to explore since moving to Southwest Florida… Lovers Key State Park. There was only one problem. I didn’t have enough coffee at home. So the first part of the adventure turned into a pre-dawn search for somewhere—anywhere—open early enough to fuel a sunrise mission. Eventually I found caffeine and calories at Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii in Fort Myers Beach, loaded back into the truck, and headed toward Lovers Key as the first light of morning began creeping into the sky. The sunrise itself was beautiful, but the early boat traffic quickly started rolling wakes through the water, turning what should have been a peaceful paddle into something a little less enjoyable than expected. Instead of forcing it, I packed up and followed the instinct every good adventure requires sometimes: change the plan. That decision led me to Manatee Park, where I launched into the quiet waters of the Orange River, a winding tributary that flows west into the Caloosahatchee River from Lake Okeechobee. What started as a sunrise paddle turned into a slow morning fishing the river, drifting through mangroves, spotting wildlife, and remembering why these early mornings are worth the effort in the first place. Sometimes the best part of an adventure isn’t the plan you made… it’s the one the day gives you instead. Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/abbynoise/who-is...
