Chaos erupted at the stores after Homeplus decided to temporarily suspend operations at all its hypermarket locations today (the 13th). According to a video reported to KBS by a viewer, dozens of consumers rushed to a Homeplus store in Michuhol-gu, Incheon this morning to purchase discounted clearance items. However, about five minutes after entering the store, a Homeplus employee guided the customers out, stating, "We are closed starting today. We just heard this news ourselves. We apologize." It appears that even the employees learned of the closure decision belatedly at the scene. Meanwhile, Homeplus stated in a press release to its employees that "operating funds have been completely depleted, making it impossible to pay for goods."
