Shopping districts across the country continue to face a difficult situation. Most shopping districts are thriving in big cities, such as Osaka's Shinsaibashi Shopping District. In regional cities, the only one that springs to mind is Marugamemachi Shopping District in Kagawa Prefecture, which is quite a rare sight. Most shopping districts have become shuttered. This shopping district is surprising other shopping districts that are struggling with the sheer number of shuttered stores. The number of shuttered stores is incredible. In fact, it was once the most shuttered shopping district in western Japan and the second most shuttered in Japan. The shopping district is located just a three-minute walk from the central station, which has the highest number of users in the prefecture.
