The New Dodge Charger Masterpiece or Disaster?

The new Dodge Charger is a very different kind of Charger. It is still big. It is still heavy. And it no longer has the Hemi V8 that defined so much of Dodge’s modern muscle car identity. Instead, this version uses a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine, an eight-speed automatic, and a much newer platform than the Challenger and Charger that came before it. In this driving clip from the full episode, MotoMan looks at what that change means from behind the wheel. The new Charger is compared to the BMW M4 in terms of size, weight, power delivery, and driving feel — but also to something much larger, because this car’s dimensions are closer to an S-Class than a typical sport coupe. The result is not simple. It does not feel like the old Charger. It does not shrink around you like an M car. But it is more refined, more composed, and more interesting to drive than expected.
