Final departure, the lake freighter St. Clair goes to the scrapyard after a horrific 2019 fire

On December 7th, 2021 the giant motor vessel St. Clair was towed from her dock at Toledo, Ohio and headed for the a Canadian scrap yard. She will be the second largest lakeboat ever scrapped at 770 feet in length, 92 feet in beam and 52 feet in depth. This was the end result of a 2019 winter lay-up onboard fire that ravaged the vessel. Many have asked how the fire happened? Why couldn't she be repaired? and what was the extent of the damage? In this video you'll get the NTSB report's findings as well as see the damage up close and deep inside for yourself, and once you see that, you'll instantly know the answer to those questions. I recently saw a comment that pondered their being able to re-use her unloading boom- well when you see that boom melted and twisted, you'll find that it is little more than scrap- just like the once proud lakeboat herself. Note: NTSB does NOT assign blame, they investigate probable causes. NTSB put the most weight on the fact that the company had no written procedures for how to ship-keep and had no form of remote sensing for fire detection. The actions of the contractor foreman were considered to be NORMAL as he thought the smoke was leftover from the day's welding.
