We found the perfect tile-to-plank joint! Overall, this is one of the most livable apartments we've ever built. And all this time, a two-year-old child has been growing up in the apartment, driving around in his car and damaging the walls and floor. Let's see what's left! And just as a theater begins with a coat rack, our apartment review begins with the front door. Usually, there's not much to say about it, but not in this case. The door here costs 10 times more than standard options. It so happened that during the finishing process, the client's chosen door supplier went bankrupt, and the apartment owner, in a fit of rage, bought this monster. The main feature here is the biometric lock, which allows you to open the door remotely or add people using fingerprints. It was very convenient to use a personal key during the finishing process; you won't forget it or lose it. The apartment is two-bedroom, 74 square meters. After the renovation, we have a large kitchen-living room, further enlarged by visually connecting it to part of the hallway, a bedroom with a walk-in closet and its own combined bathroom, another combined bathroom, and a children's room. Let's begin our review in that order. The tiles end and a magnificent wooden floor begins – an unusual solution – a locking engineered board, as the manufacturer calls it, although it could also be called parquet. Remember how I showed off these kinds of joints in the apartments of popular YouTube designers? This is what I believe a joint between a wooden floor and tile should look like. Minimalism and practicality. This practicality is achieved by the thin silicone joint, not flush with the surfaces, but recessed, and in two years, no one has damaged it with shoes, vacuum cleaners, or mops. It's truly like new. It's amazing how beautifully this board has aged in two years. A child riding his bikes and cars left small scratches all over it, the residents' feet polished it a little more in some places, and the house simply began to come alive. I remember perfectly the feeling of this freshly laid, brand-new board – just a picture, and now it's not a picture, but life, the individual imprint of the people and this house. If you understand and accept this, you'll only become happier with the aging of your floor. To create a seam, we glued approximately 1 meter of board along the tiles in the hallway and kitchen. The rest was left floating. If you're planning a standard 3-meter-wide kitchen and choosing 1500mm x 750mm porcelain tiles, don't be lazy and measure the tiles in person. They're typically slightly smaller, so you won't be able to cover three meters of flooring. You'll get 299cm. If you have a hidden baseboard, you won't be able to cover these 5mm on each side. The kitchen-living room is visually connected to the hallway, making it appear larger, even though it's only 19 square meters. We created a single joint for both the hallway and kitchen tiles. The kitchen splashback is a simple glass splashback. I'd recommend considering a matte finish if your wall isn't decorative plaster but simply painted. This sink is very convenient and practical; white is more easily soiled. You could go black with a light-colored countertop; all the cooking areas, like the stovetop or oven, are also black. The visual logic remains. I'd try to dissuade you from this cabinet design, though. There's a drawer above the oven for forks and spoons. If you decide to store cutlery above this cabinet, you'll quickly regret it, as you'll have to move all the heavy equipment inside several times a day. I prefer to only move the lower part and then pull out the drawer you need. The wall-ceiling junction here is unusual: the molding is glued to the ceiling, not the wall, which makes the ceiling appear slightly higher. We decided to try an unusual paint here: after drying, the manufacturer promised it would look like plaster. Overall, I should say there's no real point in overpaying—the difference is completely invisible from below, even with perfect vision. Incidentally, notice how the style of the molding is repeated in the door trims and panels. Music provided by Tunetank.
