What is an airgun? First, a brief overview of what airguns are: Airguns work by converting gas energy into mechanical energy. Airguns have a variety of uses, from target practice and firearms training to small game hunting and military tactical games (hardball and paintball). An important characteristic of an airgun is its power: Up to 3 J: for shooting training, airsoft (6mm and 8mm calibers) Up to 7.5 J: airguns for paintball, hardball (4.5mm caliber), and small pest hunting Up to 25 J: calibers from 4.5 to 6.35 mm for hunting and sport. Models of this power require registration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and are not sold at Forest-Home. The main difference between types of air rifles is the energy source used to fire the shot and, consequently, the level of recoil and battery life. Below are the key differences between the three most popular systems: 1. Spring-Piston (SPP) Principle: Energy is drawn from a compressed spring (coil or gas), which pushes a piston when the trigger is pulled. Recoil: High and specific ("double" recoil), which can disrupt sight adjustments. Autonomy: Complete. You only need bullets; the rifle is cocked by "breaking" the barrel or using a lever. Examples: MP-512 "Murka", Hatsan Striker Edge, Hatsan Alpha, Snowpeak AN500 air rifle. 4.5 mm, 3 J. 2. Pre-Pumped Compressed Air (PCP) Principle: A reservoir under the barrel is filled with air under enormous pressure (up to 200-300 bar) using a pump or cylinder. Recoil: Virtually absent, ensuring superior accuracy at long ranges. Autonomy: Low. Requires external equipment (high-pressure pump or cylinder) for refueling. Examples: Kral Puncher Breaker, Ataman M2R. 3. Gas (CO2) Cylinder Guns. Principle: Operates on replaceable carbon dioxide cylinders (usually 12 g). Recoil: Low. Features: Ideal for recreational shooting, but are highly temperature-sensitive (pressure drops in cold weather) and have low power. Examples: Crosman 1077, Sig Sauer MPX.
