She Turned Pain Into Power | Kia

Malkia “Kia” Walker-Mignott’s story is one of survival, transformation, and purpose. Raised in Brooklyn’s Bed-Stuy neighborhood, Kia became involved in the streets at a young age, leading to multiple periods of incarceration beginning in her teens. But prison did not define her future. Since returning home in 2012, Kia has rebuilt her life from the ground up. She earned her bachelor’s degree, became a leader in social services and reentry work, founded 2Win Flames Productions LLC, and emerged as an author, advocate, and public speaker dedicated to helping others rewrite their stories. Today, Kia is actively involved in justice reform efforts, AI education, storytelling, and legal advocacy using her lived experience to create impact, opportunity, and generational change for underserved communities. This episode of Dog In The Yard is about redemption, rebuilding, and turning pain into purpose.
