Rapidplay Tournament Game 5 | Caro-Kann Fantasy Variation | Why ...e5 Works

In game 5 of my rapidplay tournament series, I had Black against the Caro-Kann Fantasy Variation: 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3. f3 e5! At first glance, ...e5 looks like a move that opens the position before Black has completed development. Usually that would be suspicious. But here, the point is different: White has already played f3, which weakens the king and creates tactical targets. So in this game, we look at why Black can consider opening the centre not because of a clear development advantage, but because White’s king has become vulnerable. The key idea is that in some openings, sacrificing pawns is justified if it helps you create immediate pressure, open lines, and force the opponent to solve concrete problems.
