NAVIDAD DE CUENTO EN KAYSERSBERG Y RIQUEWIHR
Kaysersberg is one of the most emblematic and visited villages on the Alsace Wine Route, an essential stop on any trip through this beautiful French region, both at Christmas and at any other time of year. In this video, we explore its charming streets, steeped in history and tradition, discovering why it is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Alsace. We begin our visit at the market located in front of the town hall, with the Church of the Holy Cross as a backdrop. In the square that opens up before it stands the Fountain of Emperor Constantine, a Renaissance work from 1521 and one of the most photogenic spots in Kaysersberg. Next, we enter the Church of the Holy Cross, whose construction took place between the 13th and 15th centuries. Inside, highlights include the imposing 15th-century Triumphal Cross, the Passion altarpiece by Hans Bongart, its organ, and other valuable works of art, such as the 16th-century Entombment of Christ. We continued strolling through the historic center, discovering shops, traditional decorations, and small markets scattered throughout the town. We crossed the famous fortified bridge over the Weiss River, built in 1514, which offers spectacular views of the river, the Alsatian houses, and the remains of the medieval castle, with its keep dominating the landscape. During our walk, we also learned some interesting facts, such as that Albert Schweitzer, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952, was born in Kaysersberg. We visited other lesser-known spots, like the Chapel of St. Michael, located next to the military cemetery, which dates back to the 15th century and houses an ossuary. Between walks, photographs, exhibitions, and tastings of local products—with cheeses taking center stage—we said goodbye to Kaysersberg to continue our journey through Alsace and head towards another of the region's most famous villages: Riquewihr. A place full of history, tradition, and beauty that captivated us from the very first moment. After exploring Kaysersberg, we continued our journey through Alsace to Riquewihr, one of the most beautiful villages in France and famous for inspiring Walt Disney's Beauty and the Beast. We parked the car next to the vineyards surrounding the village and began our visit, enjoying a landscape steeped in winemaking tradition, renowned for wines like Riesling. We entered the historic center through the town hall, built in 1809 on the site of the old Old Town Gate, which for centuries served as both access to and defense for the village. Just beyond the gate, we found the fountain that inspired one of the most famous scenes in Beauty and the Beast, when Belle stops to read a book, confirming the feeling of walking through a real fairy tale. Its streets are striking for the exquisite care of the houses, shops, and facades, especially during Christmas, when Riquewihr transforms into an enchanted village thanks to its lights, decorations, and Christmas market, which winds through the streets and squares offering handcrafted goods, local cuisine, and wine tastings in the village's cellars. Every corner invites you to stop, look, and enjoy. We strolled along its main street, where historic buildings dating from the 14th to the 20th centuries are preserved. We also discovered curious and fun details, such as original signs in the shops and corners brimming with character. One of the highlights of the visit is the Dolder Tower, a 25-meter-high former defensive tower that now houses the Historical Museum of Art and Folklore. From within the village, it looks like just another house, but from the outside, its fortified character is evident in its massive walls and arrow slits. Before saying goodbye, we wandered through less crowded but equally charming areas, enjoyed some mulled wine, and took in the village, now illuminated and buzzing with visitors. We bid farewell to Riquewihr to continue our journey through Alsace towards Ribeauvillé, carrying with us the memory of a magical village that seems straight out of a fairytale.
