Since we will need to study the Conditional and Subjunctive moods in the future... at this point in time, as we proceed with the Indicative Pluperfect, this 'Verb Key Points 1' video summarizes the Indicative verb conjugations covered so far. In French, speech is divided into the Indicative, Conditional, and Subjunctive moods based on the style of speaking. The Indicative mood is like 'taking a photograph,' representing speaking with 'objectivity and certainty (+).' It is a method of conveying 'things exactly as they are' (e.g., 'it is,' 'it is.') without any subjective thoughts. The Conditional mood is like 'distancing,' which you can think of as a 'telescope.' In other words, it is a method of expressing things through 'uncertainty' (e.g., 'it would be,' 'it could be') to prevent speaking definitively. You can think of the subjunctive mood as wearing "sunglasses" as a "filter of the subjective mind." It is a method of expressing the verb in the subordinate clause (e.g., "I am glad that...", "I wish...", "I hope...") when the expression in the main clause represents the subject's feelings (desire, fear, doubt, judgment, etc.). In other words, you can think of the verb form used in the subordinate clause following a main clause that has a "filter of the mind" attached as a "way of revealing that it is caught on the main clause." As mentioned in the video, the forms of the conditional and subjunctive moods can only be constructed if you know the indicative verb conjugations (the subjunctive stem from the indicative present / the conditional stem from the indicative future / the imperfect indicative ending becomes the conditional ending). The present continuous pluperfect indicative repeats the framework of compound tenses (auxiliary verb + past participle / subject gender and number agreement, or object gender and number agreement when the direct object precedes the auxiliary verb)... It allows you to review the compound past tense forms you have already studied one more time. *If you find it difficult to learn all the verb conjugations in order, or if you have a general grasp of the concepts for each tense... using the verbs covered in the 'quiz' format for 'review practice' can be a good method.
