Snowboarding Norway Face & Dercum's Gulch at Arapahoe Basin May 8th, 2026

Norway Face 🟦 off of Lenawee chair is normally an ungroomed run that without fresh snow is a mogul field. But after the big storm a few days prior, the run on this day was soft and only a bit bumpy, with some fresh lines in spots. The rest of the run on Dercum's Gulch 🟦 back to the lift is a pretty basic groomer. Well it was supposed to be the second closing weekend at A-Basin - Friday May 8th through Sunday May 10th - after having extended the original closing date of Sunday May 3rd, but after my 30th day of the year on Friday the 8th, A-Basin announced another extension of the season, and now the third, and likely final this time, closing weekend is Friday May 15th through Sunday May 17th. This was only my 3rd day of the year at A-Basin as aside from a few early season days, there just wasn't much of a reason to go to A-Basin over Copper Mountain. A-Basin just didn't get enough snow and so most parts of the mountain remained closed for much if not all of the season. The Zuma back bowl area and The Beavers glade area are both great parts of A-Basin, but each was only open for a few weeks during the season. Of course, by second closing weekend, with A-Basin being the only resort still open, it was the only option to get my 30th day in. And with some decent storms in recent weeks, the snow at A-Basin was pretty good. They also got a big storm on the Wednesday before second closing weekend, which meant some actual fresh powder in spots. Lift lines were a bit rough however, given that A-Basin was the only game in town, so I did not get all that many runs in on the day.
