Raoul De Keyser at David Zwirner Beatriz Milhazes at the Guggenheim

im James Kalm is an artist and painter who takes great interest in works by the marginalized, subversive and unconventional. About fifteen years ago, your correspondent became aware of the work of Raoul De Keyser. With his first impression he was nonplussed, and confused with the light, apparent noncommitted casual tone of the painting. Over time, your reporter noted the actual difficulty of achieving the wane quality of the De Keyser’s approach. “Touch Game” is a large exhibition that includes around thirty paintings dating from the mid nineteen eighties to just before De Keyser’s passing in the early twenty teens. This exhibition was curated by Helen Molesworthy As a special BONUS ROUND, viewers can scan “Rigor and Beauty” a wonderful selection of paintings and collages by the iconic Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes. This show was staged as a perfect contemporary extrapolation of “Harmony and Dissonance Orphism in Paris 1910-1930” at the Guggenheim Museum. A Musical introduction is provided by New Thousand Band.
