Upon exiting the Heavenly King Hall of Lingyun Temple, you will find Jingshu Pavilion directly in front, which corresponds to the left side of the head of the Leshan Giant Buddha. Looking down from there, you can see three rivers, and to the side, steep stone steps lead downward. From here, the Jiugou Plank Road begins; the name was given because the path was carved into the rock like a plank road (a path made by inserting wooden posts into holes in the rock), resulting in a winding shape. The Leshan Giant Buddha was carved into the western cliff of Xilan Peak on Lingyun Mountain, located east of Leshan City. It is situated at the confluence of the Min River to the right, the Dadu River to the left, and the Qingyi River in the center. Construction began in the first year of the Kaiyuan era of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (713) and was completed in the 19th year of the Zhenyuan era of Emperor Dezong (803), taking a total of 90 years. It is said that Monk Haetong of Neungunsa Temple built this statue to pray for the safety of ships, as the currents at the confluence of three rivers have long been turbulent, causing boats to frequently capsize. It stands 71 ​​meters tall, and three people can sit inside each ear. With a width of 8.5 meters across its instep, it is said that over a hundred people can be seated. The fingernails resemble oval tables, and the Buddha's head is adorned with over a thousand conch-shaped topknots. Originally, when the Leshan Giant Buddha was completed, a wooden pavilion was constructed to cover its entire body.
