Here, I'll talk about Auguste Rodin's masterpiece, The Gates of Hell. ▼▼CONTINUE BELOW▼▼ Today, to talk about Rodin's Gates of Hell, let's start with a bit of history. In 1871, during the Civil War, a French government building was destroyed in Paris. It was on the site of the Gare d'Orsay, which later became a museum, inaugurated in 1900. Before the station, however, plans for a museum of decorative arts began in 1880. For this new structure, the French state commissioned Auguste Rodin to create a monumental gate. After extensive study and research, the artist reached a final draft in 1883, but the museum project ultimately stalled, and the draft remained in the artist's studio. This draft was indeed the Gates of Hell. The video is also subtitled in Italian, English, French, and Spanish.
