Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is a technique used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This technique has a positive effect on stress management outcomes. According to Jacobson, the creator of the technique, PMR can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, restoring psychological and physical well-being, given the direct relationship between emotional and bodily states. The technique consists of learning to tense and then relax the main muscle groups of the body, so that you can differentiate when the muscle is tense and when it is relaxed.
