I thought the rear door stops on my BMW X5 E53 were broken. I started hearing small squeaks in the rear on rough roads, and I figured the small stops had stopped working properly. New parts cost about 100 euros a pair, so before buying them, I decided to remove the old ones, disassemble them, and try to repair them. But in the process, I discovered something interesting: these stops aren't supposed to spring at all. They're simply adjustable. It turned out that instead of buying new parts, I needed to properly adjust the rubber stops, eliminate any play in the rear door, and lock the adjustment.
