The Strange History Of Every FIFA Women's World Cup Mascot

In today's video, I talk about the history of every Women's World Cup mascot... and unlike the men's tournament, there aren't quite as many, but there's still plenty to cover. I start with the unofficial mascots XÓCHITL from the 1971 Women's World Cup and Huā Tóng from the 1988 FIFA Women's Invitation Tournament, before getting into the official FIFA mascots, beginning with Ling Ling in 1991. From there, I cover Fiffi, Nutmeg, the 2003 tournament (which had no mascot), Huamu, Karla Kick, Shuéme, Ettie, and finally Tazuni, the mascot for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. I also talk about some of the mascots' inspirations and backstories, like Ling Ling being a Phoenix (apparently) and symbolizing the rebirth of women's football, Huamu being inspired by Hua Mulan, Ettie being Footix's daughter AND Zabivaka's potential love interest, and Tazuni's lore of being a normal penguin to a pro Football (or Soccer) star.
