We Entered TIBET On Our Motorcycle — China’s Highest & Hardest-To-Reach Region - RTW S4 EP8

How will the R1300 GSA perform at high altitudes of 4445m? Today’s episode captures a huge moment in our round-the-world motorcycle tour: we enter Tibet and ride from Golmud to Maduo, climbing into some of the highest roads in China. This section of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau is known for endless open landscapes, wildlife, and extreme altitude — and it absolutely delivered. Along the route, we stop at a small roadside shack where local Tibetan and Qinghai residents offer us food, showing us kindness and hospitality when we least expected it. Moments like this are why we love travelling across China by motorcycle. The ride continues through vast plains filled with yaks wandering across the road, huge empty horizons, and thin mountain air as we climb towards the legendary Wo Zhuo Yi Pass (4445m) — one of the highest paved passes in the region. Our BMW R1300 GSA feels every metre of altitude as we push deeper into the plateau. This is the beginning of our journey through Tibet: high altitude, dramatic scenery, cold winds, and some of the most unforgettable riding of our entire RTW trip.
