Opus 4.8 | KI News

Anthropic has surprisingly released Opus 4.8 – just five weeks after version 4.7. The model only demonstrates its strengths at the High reasoning level or higher; users running it at Medium or lower are likely to be disappointed. The Boost mode now costs only twice as much instead of six times as much. New in Claude Code and Desktop are Dynamic Workflows: structured agent teams with clearly defined roles that can parallelize up to several hundred agents simultaneously. According to Anthropic, this makes it possible for the first time to fully automate entire projects. A meta-analysis on LessWrong examines how far open-weight models lag behind the best closed-source models. Depending on the benchmark, the current gap is between 4 and 10 months – it had narrowed to around 3.5 months at one point, but has widened again somewhat due to the latest models from Anthropic and OpenAI. Anthropic has closed its Series H funding round: $65 billion in fresh capital at a total valuation of nearly $1 trillion. According to leaked revenue data, Anthropic has overtaken OpenAI in annualized revenue – with particularly strong growth in the enterprise sector. Pope Leo XIV dedicated two entire chapters to AI in his first encyclical, positioning it as a useful tool but warning against the concentration of power. Anthropic sent researcher Chris Olah to present the encyclical – a move that drew criticism, as the Pope denounces precisely the centralization that Anthropic itself promotes. Although achieving high quality in projects with complex requirements and technologies is often a challenge, Steve aims to get as close as possible to this ideal by applying Scrum and techniques from Extreme Programming. Steve is particularly fascinated by current developments in the field of artificial intelligence and reflects intensively on the implications of these technologies for the craft of software development. ______________ Many thanks to the team at the developers club for the filming, editing, content, concept development, and much more!
