Onverwacht Afrikaans

Met 'n geskiedenis wat begin het met die Groot Trek tot die Anglo Boereoorlog, is hierdie swart gemeenskap van Onverwacht voorwaar ‘n onverwagse spesiale edelsteen, eie aan die Cullinan-myne om hulle, van volgehoue Afrikaans. Verskeie vertellers bring deur staaltjies in hul moedertaal Afrikaans, hulle afkoms en toekoms van ‘n lewe diep in die Afrikaanse historie gewortel na vore, en smyt sodoende die verstandhouding dat Afrikaans net vir bruin en wit sprekers is, by die deur uit. With a history that began with the Great Trek and continued through to the Anglo-Boer War, this black community of Onverwacht is truly an unexpected and special gem, unique to the Cullinan mines surrounding them, for their enduring use of Afrikaans. Through anecdotes told in their mother tongue, Afrikaans, various storytellers share their origins and the future of a life deeply rooted in Afrikaans history, thereby casting aside the misconception that Afrikaans belongs only to coloured and white speakers.
