Watching Irish Rail ICR / class 22000 units galloping by at Adamstown / Baile Adaim

Adamstown / Baile Adaim is a relatively new station on the Dublin commuter network. It opened in 2007 as part of the project to quadruple the Dublin Heuston to Cork line on the section of track between Cherry Orchard and Hazelhatch. This was completed by 2010 and allowed separation of commuter and express trains on this section of line. It has 5 platforms- 1 is on the fast line (and does not appear to be used normally); 2 is used by stopping trains to Portlaoise and Hazelhatch; 3 is a turnback platform that is not regularly used; 4 is the stopping line platform for trains to Heuston and Grand Canal Dock via Connolly. Platform 5 is on the fast line to Heuston and isn't used regularly. It is great place for watching trains go by, as the line speed is 100mph, and as you will see if you watch the video, things can get quite busy! Trains on the line are almost exclusively ICR class 22000s, which are in 3, 4 and 6 car (in high density and express layouts) formations. Sometimes there is a 3 + 4 combination for the busiest trains. Many of the hourly trains to and from Cork are operated by class 201 diesels hauling or pushing CAF mk5 coaches. It's a pretty impressive location that shows off the Irish Rail fleet well! This video was filmed on 2/3/2026 on a very pleasant day- I arrived at 13:15 and left at 14:34, so you can see that there was alot going on in not much more than an hour. Some additional footage from previous journeys on this stretch of line have been added to spice things up a bit!
