How to Dance with the Flamenco Shawl (Mantón) - Technique, Flow & Expression

Come with me into my Flamenco class. The ladies are dancing with the Spanish shawl. We call it the Mantón de Manila. It’s a beautiful Spanish accessory with embroidery and the long tassels. But first we have to practise holding it, moving with it, feeling its flow and giving it flight. When we move with it, we have to feel it is part of us. We’re dancing to the Caña. But you can dance with manton to other styles. What is key is to practise well and give quality to how you move and flow with it . You can also feel and express your own beauty, strength and agility. TIPS 1. When you support it over your arm, feel the drape as if it is caressing you. If you don't feel this connection and touch, it can slip off your arm! 2. Practising to music always helps us internalise the compás, which is the rhythmic cycle. 3.
